Whiskey
River Band was formed in March 2002 by four musicians who saw the need
to get back to basics when selecting their music. The band plays a variety of
music from Country to Country Rock, Rockabilly and good old Rock 'n'
Roll. Whiskey River has created a large following of fans of all ages
in the Club and Pub circles of the Central Coast, Newcastle and Hunter
Valley regions of New South Wales.
Garry Horswell 'Swampy' founding member
decided on the Bands name over a beer at the old Grand Hotel Wyong which
came from the Willy Nelson song Whiskey River don't run dry. Garry was
a member of Slim Newtons Redback Country Band and has played with The
Country Echoes, Swampfox and various other Cenral Coast Bands.
Rod Boyd alias 'Buddah' and the 'Hammer'
has been playing drums for the past 30 years on the Sydney rock curcuit
and also as a studio session musician. Rod turned to Country music 10
years ago backing many Australian and overseas artists touring the festival
circuit. Rod has twice been awarded the Central Coast Country Music
entertainer of the year award.
Gary Mellross 'The Flash' has played
the Sydney Club and Pub circuit for many years and has toured Australia
and New Zealand with most of the top recording artists.Gary was also
a member of the Hollywood Country Band, the John McCall Band and the
Reg Lindsay Country Show Band, Jean Stafford and the Black Angels.Gary
plays a unique style of guitar and slide.
Alan Buchanan alias 'Funky' originally
from Melbourne where he established himself as a much sought after session
musician. Alan toured Australia and then decided to settle on the beautiful
Central Coast of NSW. Alan continued his musical career with such popular
bands as All Shook Up and the Rock Bottoms until joining Whiskey River
in August 2003.
The bands theme
song is Whiskey Under The Bridge "Brooks and Dunn"
For a great night of fun and Dancin' give us a call.
